Why I've put the Eye XR at the top: rear-mounted, in plain English
You asked about overhead units, so here's the honest picture. An overhead launch monitor lives on the ceiling — nothing on the floor, and no risk of catching it with a ball. There are two ways to mount one:
Rear-mounted (the Eye XR) sits behind you and looks forward toward the screen. The front of your bay stays completely open and uncluttered — nothing in your eyeline as you address the ball. For a finished room that doubles as family space, it's the cleanest, best-looking setup, and your 3.0m ceiling is ideal for it.
Front-mounted (Uneekor's XO / XO2) hangs above the front of the bay facing you. It gives a slightly larger hitting zone and even deeper club data, but the unit sits in your forward view — which is why you tend to see it in commercial and coaching bays rather than living rooms.
For your room and how you'll use it, rear-mounted is the one I'd fit. If the extra fitting-level data ever becomes the priority, the front-mounted XO2 is the step up — happy to talk through either.
You asked about putting turf — yes, and it's in
A putting green, built into every room
Proper putting turf — a 16mm premium pile — is now included in every room above as a 3 × 4m strip, laid under the enclosure and hitting mat, so the bay floor itself putts like a real green. It's a genuine, even roll that reads far more like a real green than a generic mat.

Your wiring
First fix: leads and sockets for this room
The Uneekor Eye XR room needs one HDMI lead to the projector, a socket by the mat and a double socket at the PC. Here is what to have in place, and a brief you can forward.
HDMI from the PC to the projector
HDMI from the picture source up the wall and across the ceiling to the mount position. Measure the real route (up the wall, along the frame or ceiling, down to the projector) plus about a metre spare at each end. Our 10m HDMI 2.1 lead covers most rooms. Over 10m, use an active optical HDMI lead: these work one way round, so check which end goes to the projector.
Ceiling mount
Needs a fixing point in the ceiling that takes the mount and the projector, and both cables arriving there before the ceiling is closed. The one mount choice that must be made at first fix.
Sockets
One at the projector position (ceiling mount), one by the hitting position for the Uneekor Eye XR, a double socket at the PC. Give your electrician the full list of what will be plugged in.
The PC
Beside the bay or at the back of the room, in a ventilated cabinet if you want it tidy. A laptop can sit on a stand by the hitting area. HDMI from the PC to the projector position.
Sound and TV
Sound from the PC
A PC has its own sound outputs (3.5mm, USB and Bluetooth, as well as HDMI), so in a PC room the speakers connect to the PC and the projector only gets the picture. That gives full stereo and keeps the projector out of the sound path.
TV and films on the same projector
The AH500ST has two HDMI inputs, so a Sky box, streaming stick or games console goes in the second input and you switch between golf and TV on the projector remote. Both inputs are HDCP 2.2, so streaming services play. The projector cannot send TV sound on to speakers over HDMI (no ARC). Either the TV box's own audio output feeds the speakers, or the TV box goes through the same HDMI switch with audio extraction as the sim source.
A brief for your builder or electrician
- HDMI from the PC up the wall and across the ceiling to the mount position.
- Power at the mount position: a socket in the ceiling void or a fused spur, by the electrician.
- HDMI from the PC to the projector position.
- A double socket at the PC for the PC and its monitor.
- Dimmable lights over the hitting area on their own switch, kept off the screen; a fixing point above the hitting area for a simulator light.
Run every lead in 25mm conduit with a draw string rather than plastering it in, so any lead can be swapped later. HDMI plugs are bulky, so leave room at each end. Keep every cable out of the hitting area and off the walkway; run the long ones round the edge of the room.
First fix is the work before the walls are closed: these runs, the conduit and the back boxes. Second fix is plugging in, after decoration.

Picture quality
1080p or 4K: what you'll actually see
The picture is only as sharp as the weakest link: what draws it (the launch monitor or a PC) and the projector. Impact screens sold as “4K” have a finer weave that shows a sharp picture cleanly, but the resolution itself comes from the projector and what feeds it.

Garmin R50 on its own
The R50 runs its courses itself and sends the picture over HDMI at up to 1080p. A 1080p short-throw projector is the right match. A 4K projector would only upscale the same 1080p picture.

Connect the R50 to a gaming PC running GSPro or E6 Connect and the PC draws the picture. With a 4K-capable PC and a 4K projector, that's true 4K. GSPro needs its own licence.

PC-run launch monitors
Foresight, Full Swing and similar units run on a PC, so the PC and projector set the picture. A 4K PC and a 4K projector give true 4K; a 1080p projector gives 1080p.
Is 4K worth it? It's sharpest on a big screen viewed up close, and for films or TV on the same projector. For golf on an R50, 1080p is the honest match.

Front-mounted vs rear-mounted overhead — which is right for me?
Rear-mounted (Eye XR) sits behind you and keeps the front of the bay open and clean — the tidiest look for a finished family room, and the one I'd fit for you. Front-mounted (XO/XO2) hangs at the front facing you, with a bigger hitting zone and deeper fitting data, but the unit sits in your eyeline — better suited to commercial and coaching bays. Your 3.0m ceiling suits either.
Do you offer putting turf?
Yes — GolfBays Premium Putting Turf, a 16mm pile supplied 4m wide and cut to length (from £115.20 for a 4m × 1m strip). It's a genuine, even roll for reading breaks, and it lays under the enclosure and hitting mat as one continuous putting surface. Tell me the length and I'll add it to your room.
