Turn the R50 into a complete simulator room. One price for the SimSpace enclosure with 4K impact screen, the BenQ AH500ST short-throw projector + floor case and the SimSpace Tee Turf mat — the R50 is in the bundle, so this replaces the launch monitor on its own.

Delivery Information

UK delivery is £5 per order, with international shipping available to select countries.

The Garmin Approach R50 ships by tracked courier. You get an email confirmation when it is dispatched and a tracking number for real-time updates. Enclosures, projectors and mats added to the same order travel separately as bulky items and our team will arrange a delivery window with you.

For full details, please visit our Shipping Policy page.

Setup Guide

Charge it, turn it on and follow the screen: language, Wi-Fi (2.4GHz), then your Garmin account. Stand the R50 about 0.5m beside the tee, facing it, at mat height — it compensates for an uneven surface, so there is no levelling. One HDMI lead from its A/V port to a projector or TV when you want the big screen (no HDMI cable is in the box).

Our step-by-step Garmin R50 set-up guide covers Wi-Fi, HDMI, placement, clubface stickers and the first shot.

Space Requirements

The R50 on its own: it stands about 0.5m (1.5 ft) to the side of the ball, facing the tee, at roughly mat height — because it is camera-based there is no run-up needed behind you. Indoors you need room for a full swing: a 2.7m ceiling is the minimum for a driver and 3m or more is ideal. Outdoors it works at the range or into a garden net.

Adding a SimSpace room around it: plan a room at least 3.0m wide, 2.7m high and 4.2m long (4.3m for the taller SIM 5 and SIM 6 bays), with 30cm behind the screen and 8cm clear each side of the frame. Use the Will it fit? guide above or our Garmin R50 room requirements guide; a free 3D design of your room settles it before you buy.

Home Tee Hero

Play 43,000 real courses.
A tee time, any time.

The launch monitor

The simulator is built in

A 10-inch touchscreen runs Garmin’s full simulator on the unit itself — no gaming PC, no laptop, no phone propped on a tripod. Home Tee Hero and online play use a Garmin Golf membership (£8.99 a month or £89.99 a year); GSPro or E6 can be added later with a PC if you ever want them.

The data

Measured, not guessed

Three high-speed cameras measure spin rate and spin axis directly — a genuine step up from radar units that calculate them. Ball speed, launch, carry, apex, offline; club path, face angle and more with the included clubface stickers. The trade-off: for pro-level club data, a Foresight still leads — ask our experts if that’s your priority.

  • 9 ball metrics
  • 7 club metrics
  • Measured spin
  • Impact video

Add the bay

A proper bay, not a net

Add the SimSpace enclosure and the R50 becomes a room. Its 4K impact screen fixes under tension on all four sides — it pulls flat like a drum, so the picture stays true shot after shot. Velour side and ceiling panels and an aluminium push-connect frame that goes up in 20–30 minutes. Seven sizes, including the 1m-deep SIM 0 for tighter rooms — pick one in the sim bundle above, or add the enclosure on its own.

Add the picture

Short-throw, no shadows

The BenQ AH500ST — in every sim bundle, or an add-on above — a golf-sim short-throw; it sits low in front of you on its floor mount, filling the screen edge to edge without casting your shadow over the ball. One HDMI lead from the R50 and you’re playing full courses at cinema scale.

The trade-offClub data is the R50’s softer spot — it uses the included clubface sticker and won’t match a Foresight for pro-level club numbers. If club data is your priority over convenience, look at the GC3 or Eye Mini.

From a Garmin R50 owner

★★★★★ 5-star review

“Tom, was excellent with the options he gave me and the Launcher Options he gave me. Everything from the Launcher to the hitting area is really good quality. I did have one minor teething issue with my Garmin R50 Launcher, I reported it to Tom, who put me onto the Garmin helpline and they where excellent too. The issue was resolved promptly and to my satisfaction. I honestly couldn't be happier with the after service and my Sim setup and would highly recommend Tom and OpenGolfer to all golfers looking for an indoor solution.”

The questions everyone asks

Do I need a PC or laptop?

No. The R50 runs its simulator on its own 10-inch touchscreen, and one HDMI lead sends it to a projector. GSPro or E6 would need a gaming PC, but you don’t need one to start.

Are there any ongoing costs?

The R50 plays free on its own screen. Home Tee Hero’s 43,000+ courses and online play use a Garmin Golf membership at £8.99 a month or £89.99 a year.

Can I add a SimSpace room around it later?

Yes. Every launch monitor here is the one we fit in our SimSpace rooms, so you can start with the unit and add the enclosure, projector and mat when you are ready — or take the room package now and save the package discount. Both routes are on this page.

We have left and right handers — does it work for both?

Yes. A mixed household simply switches sides between players; Our experts will confirm the placement for your room.
