Launch monitors

Can I return a launch monitor, and is the software refundable?

Tom Hayward Tom Hayward, founder of OpenGolfer · Last reviewed · 4 min read

The short answer

The launch monitor itself can come back to us within 14 days of delivery if it's unused and in its original packaging. The software is a different matter. Nearly every maker says subscriptions and licences are non-refundable once bought or redeemed, and FlightScope's included E6 courses don't pass to a new owner. Check your room before you activate anything.

Two separate things: the box and the software

When you buy a launch monitor, you're really buying two things. The hardware comes from us, and our returns policy covers it. The software, whether it's included or a subscription, is sold by the maker or the software company under their own terms. Those terms are much stricter, and that's where people get caught out.

I get this question most from people with a room that's close to the line. One customer buying a FlightScope Mevo Gen2 asked exactly this before ordering: what happens if the radar doesn't work behind the ball in his space? The answer was the same as this page. The unit can come back under our policy; the software can't be refunded once it's redeemed.

Our returns policy for launch monitors

Our refund and returns policy applies to launch monitors in the same way as everything else we sell:

  • You have 14 calendar days from delivery to ask for a return, and then a further 14 days to send it back.
  • The item must be unused, in its original condition, with all packaging intact.
  • Email info@opengolfer.co.uk with your order number first. We'll send a Returns Authorisation and the address. Please don't send anything back without one.
  • Return postage for unwanted items is paid by you, by a tracked service. We can collect it instead and take the cost off the refund.
  • Once it arrives, allow up to 14 working days for inspection, then up to 5 business days for the money to reach your account.

Report damage or missing parts within 24 hours of delivery. A manufacturing fault is repaired or replaced free of charge, and after 14 days a return is accepted only if the item is faulty. All of this is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Why the software is different

Most launch monitors need an account, and many tie software to that account or to the device the moment you register it. Once a licence code is redeemed, or a subscription is paid, the maker's terms usually say there's no refund, even if you return the hardware to us.

FlightScope Mevo Gen2

A new Mevo Gen2 comes with 8 E6 Connect courses you own for life. FlightScope's manual says that licence is non-transferable once redeemed, and its FAQ says included third-party software "will NOT be transferred to the new owner". FlightScope's refund policy says software licences and subscriptions are "non-returnable and non-refundable". That includes the optional Pro Package, which adds club data such as club path and face angle.

Garmin Approach R50 and R10

The range and your numbers are free. Home Tee Hero course play needs a Garmin Golf membership, at £8.99 a month or £89.99 a year. Garmin's membership terms say payments are non-refundable, with no credit for unused time, and the membership renews automatically until you cancel. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for. The membership belongs to your Garmin account, not the unit.

Foresight GC3, GCHawk and Falcon

Every new Foresight unit includes a 30-day Foresight+ trial, and Foresight asks for a card to start it. After that, Silver is $199 a year, Gold $599, and Course Pass $295 or Course Pass Pro $595, which need Silver or Gold. Foresight's subscription terms say all payments are non-refundable, with no refunds for part of a period, and plans renew each year. The membership is tied to your account, so it works with any Foresight unit you own.

Uneekor

Uneekor's Pro, Champion and Ultimate plans ($199, $399 and $599 a year) are non-refundable, with no credit for unused time, and they renew until cancelled. Unlike most, the plan is tied to the launch monitor. Uneekor will move it to a new owner with the unit for $100 per launch monitor, paid by the current owner.

Rapsodo, SkyTrak, Square Golf and Golfzon

  • Rapsodo MLM2PRO: a 45-day Premium trial, then auto-renewal. Rapsodo UK says memberships aren't refundable and can't be transferred to another person.
  • SkyTrak: SkyTrak says software and subscriptions are non-refundable. Before you sell or give away a unit, you have to detach it from your account.
  • Square Golf: there's no subscription. Credits you buy stay with the account that bought them and can't be moved, and the 1,000 free credits work only with the device they were registered on.
  • Golfzon WAVE: Golfzon says sales of its software are final and non-refundable.

Third-party software

  • GSPro: $250 a year. Its terms allow a refund within 7 days, less a $15 fee, at GSPro's discretion. The licence is for one person and can't be sold or transferred.
  • Awesome Golf: a free trial of up to 14 days, then £14.99 a month, £149.99 a year or £349.99 for life. It offers a no-fault refund within 14 days on Apple devices or 30 days on Android or direct. The licence ties to the first launch monitor it connects to.
  • E6 Connect: TruGolf says paid subscriptions are non-refundable, and each licence runs on one computer at a time.

The full price list is on what golf simulator software costs each year.

How to protect yourself

  1. Check the room before you order. Send me your width, ceiling and length, and I'll check the unit's placement against its manual. Radar needs its full distance behind the ball.
  2. Keep every box, bag and insert until you're sure it's staying.
  3. Use the free trials first. Don't buy a paid plan or redeem a licence code until the unit is reading shots properly in your room.
  4. Turn off auto-renew if you only want a year. Most plans renew on the anniversary, and a renewal isn't refundable.
  5. If you sell the unit later, detach it from your account first, and check whether the plan goes with it. With most makers it doesn't.

Prices and terms are the makers' own and can change; read them before you pay. Our returns policy covers the launch monitor hardware only: 14 days from delivery, unused and in its original packaging. Full Swing's KIT software terms weren't readable on its site when checked, so the KIT isn't listed.

Best practice

  1. Check fit before orderingSend me your room measurements first. I'll check the unit's placement against its manual, so a return is never the plan.
  2. Trial before you payUse the included trial (30 days on Foresight, 45 days on Rapsodo) before buying any plan, and only once shots read properly.
  3. Redeem codes lastHold off redeeming licence codes, such as the Mevo Gen2's E6 courses, until you're sure the unit is staying.
  4. Keep all the packagingOur policy needs the item unused, in its original condition and packaging. Keep the box and inserts until you've decided.
  5. Set a renewal reminderGarmin, Foresight, Uneekor and Rapsodo plans renew automatically. Turn off auto-renew if you only want one year.

Gotchas to avoid

  • Hardware back, software goneReturning the unit doesn't refund a plan you've paid the maker for. The two are separate purchases under separate terms.
  • E6 courses don't transferFlightScope says the Mevo Gen2's included E6 licence is non-transferable once redeemed, so a second owner doesn't get the 8 courses.
  • Foresight trial needs a cardThe 30-day Foresight+ trial asks for a card and the plan renews yearly. Cancel before it rolls on if you don't want it.
  • Uneekor plans follow the unitUneekor ties the plan to the launch monitor. Moving it to a new owner costs the seller $100 per unit.
  • Detach before sellingSkyTrak says you must detach the unit from your account before resale, or the new owner can't register it.

Our recommendation

Treat the launch monitor as returnable and the software as final. Check the room first, use the free trials, and only pay for plans once it works.

If your room is close to the radar distance
Send me your measurements first, or choose a camera unit that sits beside the ball.
If you want no ongoing software cost
Look at the Mevo Gen2, Square Golf or TruGolf LaunchBox, which need no subscription to play.
If you might sell the unit later
Uneekor plans can move with the unit; most others stay with your account.
If you're unsure which software you'll use
Start on the maker's free tier and trials, then pick one paid plan.

Questions people ask

Can I try a launch monitor in my room and send it back?

Our policy accepts returns within 14 days of delivery if the item is unused and in its original condition and packaging. If you're unsure it will fit, message me your measurements before ordering and I'll check the placement against the manual.

Will I get my software money back if I return the unit?

Usually not. FlightScope, Garmin, Foresight, Uneekor, Rapsodo, SkyTrak and Golfzon all say their software or subscriptions are non-refundable. GSPro may refund within 7 days, less $15, and Awesome Golf within 14 or 30 days.

Can I pass the software on if I sell my launch monitor?

Mostly no. FlightScope's included E6 licence doesn't transfer, and Garmin, Foresight and Rapsodo plans stay with your account. Uneekor is the exception: it will move a plan with the unit for $100.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Through the maker's app or account, not through us. Garmin, Foresight, Uneekor and Rapsodo plans renew automatically, and cancelling stops the next renewal rather than refunding the current period.

What if the launch monitor is faulty?

Report damage within 24 hours of delivery. A manufacturing fault is repaired or replaced free of charge, and after 14 days a return is accepted only for a fault. Your Consumer Rights Act 2015 rights still apply.

Who pays return postage?

For an unwanted item, you do, using a tracked service. We can arrange a collection instead and take the cost off your refund. Don't send anything back without our Returns Authorisation.
